First Time Changing My Own Oil?????
Here are my few tips...
Get a new magnetic drain plug and some nylon washers (to make a good seal on the plug).
Just use your new oil bottles to hold the old oil, after you've drained it into a pan... put the new filter on, the plug back in, fill it, then empty the drain pan into the empty bottles. Then take them to AutoZone or Pepboys. Works great!
I'd advise against any oil filter wrench tools. You just want to hand-tighten it, after wetting the rubber gasket on it with your finger dipped in some of the new oil.
Enjoy! It's a great feeling doing it for the first time!

Thanks for all the tips, doesnt seem to difficult, and I think I have everything I need
One question though, about oil weight, is 10W30 ok to use, or only use that when its nicer out and use 5W10 for the winter when its cold?

I did this yesterday. I thought the drain plug was 14mm.
I use a PF35 oil filter, from AC Delco. The books say to use a PF25, but the PF35 is just a larger version of it. So for relatively the same price, the PF35 allows more filtering capabilities (more filtering media inside the filter). The choice is yours.
I also use 5 quarters. about 1/2 quart inside the filter, the other 4.5 inside the crankcase.

for temps of -40 below...I would use Mobil 1 0w 30. It's rated to pour at -65 below.
In the cold winter months of Alberta, run 5w30, definitely synthetic too, the rest of the time you can run 10w30.
If you want to learn more about oil, here is a great message board that I'm a part of:

I was just reading teh SS owners manual supplement and it says that synthetic 5W30 should be used, and thats what SLP put in it. so should I jsut use 5W30 all year round, or 5W30 in the winter and 10W30 in the summer?

Laymaster...
I said it was the 9/16" which is what I used and it worked perfectly. Not even the slightest amount of play so it has to be taht (or 14mm as the other guy mentioned). It definitly isn't 15mm unless like I said before my drain plug was somehow stripped a tad so that the 15mm had more than normal play. Either way, I'm sure he can figure it out ;-).
