it's time for the first oil change for the new motor after break in. how much do i need to put in with a rear mount? 5qt? i dont want to put in to much or to little

 

What do you mean by rear mount?

 

put 5 qts in the pan (if its a 5qt pan), pull the stick and mark it at that level. start the car let the oil circulate shut it off then pull the stick, it should be a little lower, add to get back to that level. you should only have to add 1/4 qt or so unless you put in a cooler or extra filter, etc.

the reason i say mark the stick is because there are so many tolerances in production items that you can't just trust it, esp. if you've pulled the tube and not pressed it all the way or changed to a thicker pan gasket, etc.
