ram air makes lean code

this is wierd.. i have a 97 lt-1 i bought a suncoast custom ram air box for a double vison ram air hood i had. when i put it on it throws a lean code for both banks. i put the factory air box back on and its ok. i put the ram air box back on----same thing. i have checked all the connections to make sure there was no air sucking after the maf and cant find any. the filter is clean and im not sure why its doing this. i have tried changing the setup to stock and back several times and still have the same result. would a small exhaust leak before the o2 sensor cause this. i have a cheap set of headers and the flanges are not that thick, but i cant hear one. how could i preform a smoke test or if anybody has another suggestion that would be great.

thanks for any replies

Maybe the Suncoast box fits poorly, and when the hood smashes down on it, it opens up a gap after the MAF.

ok

ill try and check for that. it doesnt take long before it throws the code so ill put it together leave the hood up and let it run or ill take the hood off and drive it down the road to see if it still comes on. thanks for the suggestion.

ram air

ok it has been a while since i first posted this but i have been redoing all the suspension on the car along with some paint and body work. i have check the clearance on the hood and all is good. i have taken the filter out and it still throws the codes for lean on bank one and two. i have disconnected the ram air box and left the maf and no codes. the codes are coming up with the hood up so i know its not a binding up problem.

its just a damb plastic tube this should not be a problem....

has anybody ever had a similar issue with the suncoast ram air before?

Did you use an extension for the MAF sensor harness? Have you verified the MAF is installed in the correct direction?

yea everything else is fine the meter is facing the correct way and the harness is in the stock locations with no mods. the harness reaches fine with no tension on it.

Replace the screen if you can find one. Try a JY. Your problem will be over.
