First drive with the 227/233 Cam today - to the gas station
Ok it ran really good. No problems from what I could tell. The temps stayed down, so I think the coolant level is OK. Put some cheap 10-W30 in and I'll be changing that after like 100 miles or so, to put my usual Castrol GTX and an AC Delco filter in.
The car when driving in 4th at ~40 mph (700r4 with manual valvebody) seems to surge (I think thats the word I'm looking for here) just a little bit. I figured that that would be normal since its a fairly large cam on stock heads. At 45 mph, turning a few more RPM's it seems normal. I can definitely feel the cam shaking the car lol
Nothing looks to be leaking, and so far so good! I'll update more when I drive it more this weekend.

Sounds good man, I plan on doing a comp 230/236 for my car sometime. Just have to get the parts together
. They say the right tuning will get that surge out of it.

Yeah, Alvin at PCMforless did my tune, I may give him a call and see what he says
I have a 233/239 in my 93 A4. It also surged a bit around the MPH you're describing. It was the torque converter locking up. (at 43 MPH. It unlocks at 40)
I moved up the lock-up point a few MPH and the surge went away. (I have a 2400 stall)
Congrats on the cam though. It's a good cam.

I also felt some shaking during the surging, kind of felt it on the floorboards underneath my feet. Not sure what that meant.
Do you know if I can change the lock up MPH on the 700r4? Would that be a tuning issue?

Yes, you can change the torque converter lock-up and release points on a 93/700r4. Not the shift points though.

Oh, but you CAN indeed change the shift points
Lighter or heavier springs in the governor assembly!
But for me, I just shift it whenever I please! But yeah, I will probably raise the lockup to like 45 mph, becuase most of my city driving speed limits are 40

The 93s have ECMs (Engine Control Modules) as opposed to PCMs (Powertrain Control Modules) that the 94+ cars got. You can change the shift points on a 94+ in the programming but not on the 93. Torque converter lockup and release points are controlled by the ECM however.

Right, but I was talking about programming.

True, true.
