Give us in idea of what kind of HP you are looking for, and what your budget is. How did you select the cam and the Trick Flows? Are the TF's going to be milled to get the 62cc chamber volume down and the compression ratio up where it belongs?

What is already done to your car? Might want to add a "signature", with year, model, engine, tranny and any current major mods. That way people will be able to help you better.

Like injuneer said, a little more info will greatly help us, help you. Getting an engine built when this is your first one takes a lot of research and questions. In the end though its a nice acomplishment.

would it be a bad idea to just get the cam kit and have the stock heads worked.

Most people will tell you that the heads pick the cam, not the other way around.

Do you mean 500whp
or 500 hp at the engine. Because stock heads will not make 500whp without forced induction, or nitrous (as far as I know).

Trial and error with car engines

If thats what you want to do though, you can. Lots of proven combos out there for the LT1 to just be "guessing" at what to buy.

Slow down and start playing with boltons.

"building" an engine at this stage would be a big expensive mistake.

Properly worked the stock heads ARE capable of over 500rwhp, you aren't going to get there though, many "professionals" can't, yet some true professionals exceed that number solidly.
