First 93 lt1 need help

ok i picked up a 93 formula and was able to drive it for the first time today and went around the block and when you go to give it gas it almost wants to die and i hurd a pop once.
I`m geussing opti spark is bad from sitting for about 2 years and has 94,xxx miles.
I`m thinking of switching it over to a vented opti but what all do i need ??
I already have a extra 95 opti and 95 timeing chain cover.
Do i need a 95 chain cover?? if so why ??
But the pin in the cam is it short correct???
Mybe its not worth it and just put a new 93 opti back on ???

Re: First 93 lt1 need help

You need to pull out the dowl pin, get a 95+ cam gear for the timeing set, the harness for the conector is also a different part and style, and get the vaccume harness.

So yeah thats it

Re: First 93 lt1 need help

if i remember right, the 95 timing cover has a bigger hole infront of the cam, remember, instead of having like a 1/2" diameter splined shaft spinning in the middle, you have a 1/4' dowel spinning on the outside. DEFINITELY dont forget to get a new plug for the opti, i swithed mine over and couldnt figure out why it wouldnt start. the plug fits in the hole but it is not long enough to make contact. you can get just the plug end from a chevy dealer for about $3 if you feel like using a pin tool and removing the pins from the old plug and putting them in the new one.

i looked at switching mine too but you have to have like $200 in misc parts and then switch the cam.... **** that you can get a diff system for like 700 and not have to mess with the cam.

Could be the opti you probably should check out the catalytic converter too. On a 3rd gen a friend of mine had it was doing a similar thing. The cat was clogged all to hell. Replaced it the car ran like a champ.
