The Final WS6 "Ram-Air" Vs SS "Ram-Air" Vs CAI Discussion
Ok, this has been argued and discussed over and over and over again, it's time to nail it down once and for all.
Now the big part ***NO RAM-AIR DISCUSSION!!!!! This is not meant to argue whether Ram-air has any gains or even exists, this is to discuss which is a better air-intake system and why. Once again, NO RAM-AIR DISCUSSION, this always happens whenever this is brought up and masks the question of what is a better intake

I would say the WS6 intake or anything similar just because of the path the air follows. It is straighter and shorter, it's placement is also very good IMO.

For what it's worth, the factory WS.6 ram air box becomes a restriction at 450rwhp and up. I picked up 2 mph at the track just by taking the lid off the setup. I'm going to an LS1 induction to see if there is any more gains to be had. If I had to pick one, I'd say the K&N FIPK is probably the best. A good friend of mine had a stock bottom end heads/cam LT1 running the SLP Cold air. Only switching to the K&N FIPK netted him 1.5mph at the track the next week, similar weather. This was on a 116mph car.

Ok. then I have to add a "modified" WS6 intake, AKA, De-baffled hood/airbox to this list.
I know on mine, if I remove the airfilter and close the hood, I can see the TB blades through the hood openings.
Otherwise, great comments/votes.

My little experiment was on a debaffled/modified hood and the airbox had every other louver cut out of it for more open area to the filter.

if you debaffle it the restriction is in the filter cross-sectional area depending on your hp levels. Next restiction is the maf but that's another disscussion. But overall I think the ws6 sys. is a better design.

The baffles in the hood, intended to drop the water out.
WS6:
-remove the hood baffles
-cut the cover to the full face area of the filter
-ditch the MAF
-replace the bellows with the Fernco
-spray a 300-shot in the outlet of the airbox

Re: The Final WS6 "Ram-Air" Vs SS "Ram-Air" Vs CAI Discussion
sorry to hijack thread for one sec, but, at what point does the maf become a restrcition. I ask because I just bought a fully forged 383 shortblock, some trickflow heads (being ported 2.08/1.625 by LE) and a cam from le/bauer. Lloyd is expecting 450 relatively easily, and maybe more if everything is in line, so, when does it become a restriction to HP? and what do you do to make it flow better?
