A shop would be better than throwing expensive parts at it. A dealer has the stuff th check it with. It probably needs a scan and they can see.
Not just any shop but one who has the machines to scan and check it.

i avoid shops until i am totally stuck. new opti's are down to 160 ish with the new jegs and mallory aftermarket (ha take that gm). i would keep troubleshooting. i cant see a shop doing any diagnostics for you for less than a 100. that doesnt even mean they will find the problem.

you do know the opti is composed of the cap and rotor, and the optical side? How do you know your getting spark and that the fuel is actually getting out of the injectors? You might have fuel pressure at the rail, but the fuel could not be spraying out of the injectors if the optical side of the opti is bad, cause it uses that as a source for when the injectors should fire..

not to mention you have a cam...so no dealer will touch it.

i tried taking my 99 to a dealer for a misfire...they looked at the LT headers and removed emissions and called it a "higly modified race engine" and wouldn't even scan it. and this was BEFORE my cam.

dealers are just parts swappers. change things till it fixes it. regardless if the part is bad or not.

its easy to tell if its the optical side that is bad. Hook up a scanner to it, and while your cranking, if the rpm's dont move on the scanner, the optical side is bad..

p/m sent

is your engine light on and blinking when you get on the gas???? my buddy's did the same thing on his 97... he replaced whole opti.. wires...plugs...coil...and module and still performed like **** and ran the same... it turned out that it was an oxygen sensor...one of the front 2 sensers(in front of the cat) if you have a 96 or newer. but i would try a 40 dollar sensor before pulling an opticrap off again.

Re: final plea for help...****ing LT1

You checked for spark at the plug wires or the coil?

Usually changing the cap and rotor doesn't fix the problem....the whole opti should be replaced.
