Few problems on 95 Z28
Ok, the car is a 1995 Z28 (A4 with 2.73s, headers/catback/CAI/LT4 KM/TB Bypass) with 85,000 miles on it. I'm having a couple of problems with it.
The first is the transmission has seemed to have been shifting later under WOT (it used to only seem to go to about 5800-5900). It seems to go to 6,000 RPM or just a little past it (I've heard the tach is often not 100% accurate though). I've done nothing like changing the shift points so I don't see why this would happen. Also, my friend who was following me today said that there was just a little blue smoke (only once) right before the car shifted (ie around redline). I know blue smoke is oil, but is this reasonably normal? Also, under heavy throttle there seems to be some kind of a "clunk" sound whenever the transmission shifts, and it rattles around the shift plate thingee in the interior of the car. I'm not sure if the shift plate is loose or what else this could be, does anyone have any ideas?
The other problem the car started having just today is that it will make a squeaking noise, somewhat like worn brake pads, but not when I'm on the brakes. It only does this when I have the steering wheel held to the left somewhat, and doesn't always do it.

Re: Few problems on 95 Z28
Couple of quick suggestions. First have a reputable trans shop do a thorough service on it and while they are there, replace your warn out transmission mount with a eurothane one. That's probably why your shifter is jumping around. We have all had the problem.
While the cars up in the air, take a look at the front suspension. Chances are your lower ball joints need replacing.
The OEM bushings are probably shot too.
Go ahead and put the particulars of your vehicle in a signature and put your location in your name tag.

Also, would the front suspension bushings from BMR be reccomended as well? Which ones would I need most likely?
Re: Few problems on 95 Z28
Any eurothane bushings are good but be wary. I got the most advertised set and they re-use the metal shells in the front bushings from the old ones. That is a major PITA to remove the old ones and clean the shells. If you can find some that don't reuse old parts, that's the ones to get. It seems to me anything BMR has is good quality. Just check with them to see if they have to reuse the old metal shells. If you don't find any that don't have to reuse the old ones, so be it. Just prepare yourself for work with a torch and a small wire wheel in a drill.
