Unhappy Fans on way too early

Hey guys,

My problem began a couple weeks ago. I changed the stock t-stat to a hypertech 160*, new coolant, and did a throttle body bypass. I started driving the car in mid march, so the weather was still really cold at night. At first, the car would normally operate between 160-170. The fan would kick in around 200-210, which seemed normal. Now, the fan will kick on within 2-3 minutes of starting the car (usually the gauge is at 120-130 when it begins). I'm thinking that the few days I drove it in very cold temperatures threw the pcm off. Is there a way to reset the fans to stock? or maybe I have a different problem?

ps - I tried disconnecting the negative battery cable, no luck.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Sounds like you have other issues. The car isn't thwoing any codes is it? no SES light? Usually when you change to a 160* t-stat, you need to program the fans to come on earlier. This is strange.

You probably forgot to hook up some connector (IAT, MAF, etc). Check all of your wiring

ok nevermind I can't leave it..i'm obsessed with my car as most of you can understand lol. the thing that confuses me is that I haven't had a single SES code and the idle seems perfect. It's the stock chip I'm 99% sure, and all fuses look fine. Shoebox? anybody?

Thanks for the quick reply, u the man

I took it to auto zone to see if it would scan any codes. of course, their scanner was broken but they said if there hasn't been a SES light going on, it most likely won't show anything anyways.

One thing I did notice was, if I turn the heat off, they operate normally. Even on the 2 middle vent settings they are fine. But when it's on the 2 right side heat settings, the fans turn on immediately. Hmm?

Are both fans on or just one?

Dumb question, but when your key is in the 'On' position with the car off, does your SES light, light up? :d

Just checking. Mine died before.

Just the drivers side, it's full blast too.

Not sure if there's any correlation, but the ac (front of pulley?) will turn for about 4 seconds, then stop for 20, start for 4, etc. while fan is on.

thanks, I appreciate the help.

If the A/C isn't on then the compressors clutch should never engage the compressor. If the A/C is on the fan will come on.

You don't need a scanner to check for codes on a 1993. You can flash them with the SES light. My website shows how.
