Fans don't turn on even w/ A/C On!

New car overheated today. It got up to the red area and I immediatly turned it off. The fans arnt turning on at any temp nor do they turn on when the AC is put on. My Check Engine light came on when it got into red but no fans turned on either. Doesn't this mean its not the temp sensor? And must be a relay/fuse or bad pcm input?

Could be any of those you mentioned. I would look at the fuses first, then the relay and wires going to the fan. I can get a wireing diagram if you need it.

Let me know.

Mine was the temp sensor. First I checked the fuses then I learned it was the sensor.

You can find lots of testing info and wiring diagrams in the "How To's" section of my Tech Page.

Thanks for the replys. I will check the fuses first. Thanks. Its just that if the temp sensor was not working then the fans would still come on w/ the a/c on.

Re: Fans don't turn on even w/ A/C On!

I had that EXACT same prob with my 97 Z, i tried EVERYTHING, swapped relays, Nothing, tried the temp sensor Nothing tried the sending unit (sensor in the water pump) Nothing, put a test light to all the points in the FAN RELAY block and Boom fans came on! So okay the prob is somewheres else, i had a buddy who had the same prob with his 93 Z his car had been in a minor accident in the front end, mine had some markings of a slight collision on the front end. Its my belief that those fan wires run up somewhere in the front end and MAYBE with even the slightest impact can get pinched or damaged enough so not complete the circuit or whatever that they are runnin on. I really don't know electrical stuff is not my thing, im sure someone can give some more light on this but thats ny $.02 on this problem. My solution was the SLP fan switch, for the $$$ costs its well worth it!

Best of luck!

Ill be watchin this post to because i KNOW somebody, maybe even Shoebox knows why this happens and the best solution for the probalem at hand

OK well I located the Fan use in the engine bay and it was blown so I got a new one and now the fans come on when you turn the AC on so I think its fixed now. I do think it may have a blown head gasket tho. When turning it on the exhaust seems to whiter then normal (tho it is cold out), and when I had it on the jacks and reved it it would rev up and then when it would down rev it would start to miss around 500rpms and stay around 300-500 for a second or two before it would go back up to normal idel. Anyone?

Ok so I tested the car. The fans only turn on when the AC is on. They do not turn on when I jump the #5 and #6 cables on my OBDII port or when the engine gets over 220 degrees. Is it my temp sensor now? I replaced a blown fuse for the FANS which was located in the engine bay. Since that fuse was blown could my relays be blown too? Anyway to test those? I dont have foglights.
