fan relay was replaced with jumper - why?

Just purchased 94 Z28 5.7 with 3 fan relays - someone pulled relay #1 and jumpered pin 3 to 5, and both fans run all the time, apparently at low speed...dunno yet whether high speeds will kick in, but assume previous owner had some sort of cooling problem - or is this a common precautionary mod that is harmless? Thinking to return to stock for longer fan life...?

some people do this to override the system causing the fan(s) to come on and stay on.
you may want to find the reason it was done though.
fan(s) not coming on or not soon enough
bad relay
bad switch etc.
i would put back to stock with fan switch from SLP,caspers,Harlan etc.

I would put it back to stock and tune it where you want it. I have never liked the idea of a switch when you have a temp sensor and a computer that lets you set it where you want it.

Thanks - So I can set the fan turnon temps? Seems like this would not be necessary if the system stock settings work OK......? I'm guessing that the stock turnon temps appear too high or they want some lower temp turnons to give some leeway in hot traffic....i.e. stock turnon temps which are way over 212 may be too high and too late for cooling in extreme conditions....?

Now need to find out how to program the computer.....any special gadgets needed?

i have 3 jumpers made out of wire with flat squished down ends that i keep under the hood slid underneith the fuel lines back behind fuse box. If i park and want to cool car down i pull relays and put the jumpers in.. cool the car quicker before maybe doing work on it..

id say that someone just left these in by mistake

question? does the fan run if the car is off? or does it just run all the time when the car is on
cause if things are working corectly and it is jumped it should be runnin while car is off?

also which fan spot is it in? (#1,2,3)

ok fan 1 i dont think kicks the fans on when car is off so your prolly ok

here try this take the jumper out of fan 1 and take out the fog light relay and put it in the coolant fan 1 spot and see if your fan functions normaly or not if it does then you can buy annother relay

someone prolly did th is to keep thir car runnin cooler but without proper thermostat and tuneing prolly wasnt all that good

id suggest trying relay and see if it fixes problem. id put in a 160 thermostat then i would take my car to a shop where they do tuneing/dyno on the lt1's and i would have them program the fan times for the 160 thermostat 185 and 195 kick on temps i believe

I did this, only slightly different, to my car just so I have cooling whenever the key is in the on position. I have both fans relays and the e-waterpump setup to cool the car in the pits after a run, and they stay on all the time so it doesn't heat up as fast when going to the staging lanes and etc...
