Failed smog, what to fix?
Failed smog, what to fix?
Well I went and got it tested today, FAILED! This really sucks because my registration is up next week. This is why it failed:
The following monitors were not ready: 3
Catalyst
EGR system
Oxygen sensor heater
What the hell does this mean? Am I going to be able to fix it by next week or am I **** out of luck? Before getting my car smogged I pulled my PCM BAT and PCM IGN fuse because I have a SES light that I can't seem to fix, could this cause the problem?
Thanks, Dan

Pulling the fuse may have caused the problem. I'm not sure, but the results of those test may be stored in volatile memory, and when you pulled the fuses, it erased it. You need to take the car out and do at least one complete driving cycle as described by GM. The car will run those tests.

Did you make sure to put the lines on correctly? Also if the lines are correct, maybe the carbon canister is bad. You've got to fix the problem. There's no way out of it. Those tests can only be completed by driving the car, so if you want to pass then fix it.

I had my canister go bad a couple years ago. I replaced the cansister, and blew the charcoal out of the lines. The SES light still came on. So I then replaced the solenoid, and sensor before the solenoid. The SES light came on again. I checked the lines going to the solenoid, and found I had them backwards. Problem was solved.

I think resetting the pcm caused the sensors not to operate, so my first goal is to get rid of the codes causing the SES light so I don't have to clear it before smogging.
