Failed emmissions...barely. What can I do?

Out of the 3 tests conducted, Hydrocarbons was the only one that failed. The state limit is .9000 ppm. I had 1.2 ppm. The other 2 tests weren't even close. The car does have a gm846 cam but I also had a cat installed yesterday.

Get that cat hot before you test it. While I was waiting inline I held it at 2500rpm. Go for a spirited drive before. Changing plugs would help but with the setup in your sig I bet you keep your car pretty maintenanced.

I wondered that to when a person told me to plug the pvc. I figured the less gases vented into the intake the better, specially if theres problem thats circulating bad gases back into the intake

FWIW I got the car extremely hot (215 degrees). I didn't do anything to the programming to lean it out so I guess that's something else I can try. Are there any fuel additives that can help clean this up? From what I was told, Hydrocarbons come from unburnt fuel coming through the tailpipe.

I know it depends alot on the tester/driver. I had some woman drive my car first and she couldn't hardly keep in the lines. She kept falling out of the range and having to gas it to get it back. The next time, a guy drove it and did a really good job. It ended up fast passing. I'd talk to the guys before you have the car tested again and see if they can't take it easy on it. Also, there are fuel treatments at Autozone, or anywhere else, that guarantee you to pass. I'd try some of that and talk to the place. That's what I did and I passed. Good luck.

Things to help you pass:
  • good tune up (plugs, wires, air filter, fuel filter)
  • clean oil (dirty oil can raise your HC levels)
  • good O2 sensors (car runs richer as O2's age)
  • hot cat
  • hotter engine (stock thermostat)

The plugs are tr55's that probably only have 4k miles on them. The fuel filter probably has less than 1k
I didn't know oil had an affect on emmisions but maybe I should change it anyways. It only has a few hundred miles...but they're track miles
I have noticed that my right o2 sometimes doesn't operate like the left. On occasion it has taken a bit longer to start registering voltage than the other.
I only have a 160 thermostat but I've got other means of getting it hot

Thanks for the input guys.
