Failed Emissions - Help!!!

I live in Colorado and went today to get my emissions tested and I failed! They said that my HC and CO levels were too high. For HC, 2 is passing and I had 3.2593. For CO, 20 is passing and I had 44.6744. The said that the HC level is high due to unburned or partially burned fuel. The high CO level occurs when the air/fuel mixture is too rich. What can I do to fix this? If I can make it back there in the next 10 days, I don't have to pay agian, so please help. I have a hi-flow catalytic converter, but would that cause this? Any help that you guys can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I would recommend the following:
Run a few cans of seafoam thru the intake and fuel system after that a tuneup and finnaly replace you O2 sensors and that should do it.

how old is your converter? High flow converters don't seem to last long. If you ever had a bad opti or a burnt plug wire, the extra raw fuel tends to burn up a converter pretty quick. Thats why mine failed a while back.

Umm... yes! A high-flow cat has a lot less mesh to catch the extra particles versus a stock cat which has more mesh thus it results in less horsepower due to the mesh being in the way of the exhaust flow

But, with a good tuneup and a close to stock engine, you should pass even with a high-flow cat.

I passed with a highflow cat, the high HC is more then likely cuz by faulty plugs/wires or could possiablely be a bad injector.

Not true

Anyway, you might want to look into replacing your EGR valve.

The part about the mesh. A high flow cat being a high flow cat has more to do with the seams on the front where it goes in/out to a 3" pipe, and the catalyst itself (which is attached TO the mesh), then the amount of mesh inside (the entire cat is going to be full, I promise you.)

My carsound cat decided to turn itself into straight pipe after 9 months of use with a big cam.

Re: Failed Emissions - Help!!!

The cat is only about a year old. Also, I replaced the O2 sensors at the same time that i put the cat on. I don't want to have to get rid of the cat, so any quick fix that will just allow me to pass is all I'm looking for. I will try the seafoam if nobody else has any other suggestions. Anyways, thanks for the help, but any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Failed Emissions - Help!!!

I am just looking for a quick fix to get me past the test. Then I don't have to worry about it for 2 more years. I have heard that if you put a couple bottles of HEET into your gas tank, it will burn cleaner with lower emissions. Has anybody tried this or heard of it working. Please Help!

Re: Failed Emissions - Help!!!

I have the fans set to come on sooner. Could this be part of the problem? Should I take out the relay when I get to the emissions place or will that cause a problem? I know that they run it on the machine for about 4 or 5 minutes. Will my car still be okay?

Re: Failed Emissions - Help!!!

they shouldnt effect the readings at all. I say get it hot because your catalytic converters work best when hot.
