extra hose from air pmp
extra hose from air pmp
i hav e afuntional ram air hood on my 1994 trans am gt. there is a extra hose coming from the airpump that is just hanging there now. it is about a 1.5 inch hise and it is right infront of th water pump facing the front of the car. It had to go into the stock elbow coming out ot the throtle body but there is no where to put it now. i have no ses light but i have had some strumbling trouble once the car gets warm. i changed the opti to try to fix it and the car is not starting now but i am looking at this hose that goes to nowhere and wondering if that may have been the cause all along. I have read a lot of info and it looks like the fuel filter was the cause of my woes though...replaced it aqs well but i can not get itto fire now at all. Any ideas on my troubles. this thread is fpor the airpump hose but any info is greatly appreciated. i need to drive it agian.
The stock setup for the AIR pump air supply hose is to connect to a nipple on the stock air ducting between the filter and the MAF. That hose, by the way.... at least the way it left the factory... is 5/8" inside diameter.
In a WS6 setup, that hose (actually, a hose molded to a different shape) connects to the bottom/back of the WS6 airbox, at the lower edge on the driver's side. You can see it in this picture:

If that hose is left unconnected, it will not in any way affect the operation of the engine. The AIR pump only runs at startup, pulling air through that hose, and blowing it into the exhaust manifolds to help the cat(s) heat up faster. About 3 minutes after startup, the AIR pump shuts off. The hose not being connected will not cause stumbling.
Leaving the connection for the hose open on the stock ducting will allow unfiltered air to enter the intake ducting... maybe get the MAF a little dirty, and of course increase wear in the engine.

okay my airbox does not have provisions for that. i have a sun coast creations hood and air box and it is diffrent then yours. looks like you have stock or slp parts. guess i will just pull it off the car. so can i just remove the airpump alltogether? if that is all it does and it n0ot being hooked up hurts nothing then way leave it in the car?
If its working, and you want to keep it, just get a small "oil breather" type air filter, and plug it into the end of the hose. If you don't want the system, you can leave it or remove it. On 93-95 models, you can unplug the pump without setting an SES light, as long as the fuse in the circuit is still good.
