Extended wheel studs?

OK...The end of last season I went 12.0. Kinda bittersweet, as that trip turned my 10 bolt into a pile of clunking junk.

I've got everything ready to go back together...welded housing tubes, Auburn posi, 3.73 Motive gears, solid "crush sleeve", all new bearings and seals, etc.

The 10 boilt is probably only going to see another year before a 9" swap, so I'm not really planning on buying aftermarket axles yet.

My question has to do with putting extended studs in my stock axles. Has anyone tried to drill and tap their axles for screw in studs? I like the idea of screw in studs because they're easier to replace if one breaks.

What's everyone else using? YES, I know aftermarket axles already come drilled and tapped.
