Opti Harness Corrosion?!
Opti Harness Corrosion?!
I just got done pulling off my 3rd opti of the year... And to when I pulled the opti harness, the connector assembly was all full of this blue powdery soot. Almost like that corrosion that happens to a penny after it's been sitting in water? Anyway.. This opti harness has maybe 2 months of use on it ~ as I replaced it two months ago w/ another opti in october, and I've never seen one look so crappy after such a short period of time. Even the brass vacuum end had some corrosion going on. Does anyone know how this can be stopped??
Would some electrical contact cleaner work okay to clean up the plug? Then some dialectric grease to kinda coat the pins on the replacement opti? Just lookng for some ideas on how to get some longevity out of this next opti.

3 optis in a year
i dont understand how they arent lasting. i still am running the stock opti and it has 85,000 and i have also washed the motor really good atleast 4-5 times a year and have never even protected the opti once.

I had the same problem with the corrosion. I thought my opti was bad replaced it and it still acted up. I thorougly inspected the harness and ended up replacing it. The damn harness was the problem. Car ran great after I replaced it. Do what 93 Formula said, use dialectric grease. That is what I used and put on and have had no problems.
