Expert oil advise needed.

I'm running Mobile 1 in my Z. Right now I have 10W-30 in it. I heard somewhere I should run something else, I just don't remember what weight. Any suggestions?

If you do a search on this section, you can find a few good discussions about the best oil to use. If I remember right, I think it was stated that mobil's 30 weights are a little thin, and you should step up to the 40's, but don't quote me on that.

If using M1 then yeah the 0w-40 or 5w-40 are better choices. The 5w-30 and 10w-30 are good oils just in this brand specifically not quite right for this engine, reguardless of the "they put it in the Vette" argument. Remeber there are the same guys that brought us PWM in the tranny, the unvented opti, the 7.5" axle in a performance car, you get the point, they are not perfect and sometimes have to do things for reasons other than performance or reliability.

Do a "search" for post by Patman.... he found a German made synthetic that provided the lowest engine wear based on post-change oil analysis.

Very nice thread. I read about 4 pages before my eyes began to hurt, lol, but very good info. I work at Autozone and I don't think we have the sytec in 0w30, so i'm thinkin the Mobil 1 0w40 will be my oil of choice from now on. Is every 3000 way too soon to change a synthetic? Am I being too ****? I use the M1 filter as well.

This is going to sound stupid however comma, Royal Purple is some decent oil. Its the first oil i have ever used that i could tell a noticable difference in accelloration after switching from Mobil1 to it . 10w40 is what i run with 58k miles.
