EXHAUST - weight and power?

I am going to put my exhaust together this week.

I have Kook's headers with a 3" collector.

I have waiting to be put in:

4" Mufflex, spintech muffler with dual 3" tailpipes.
Mufflex 3" to 4" y-pipe.

I have to fabricate tubing between my y-pipe and the collectors.

My current setup to be frank is heavy...and I do not like that one bit.

So..what I am curious about is the weight of a dual 3" exhaust with a x-pipe, 2 bullet mufflers and turndowns before the axel?

I have also read that some people were less than impressed with Spintech mufflers...but how would it compare to 2 bullet mufflers that basically free flowing?

Re: EXHAUST - weight and power?

I'd venture to say that a Summit 3" Xpipe and 2 bullets are going to be less than 1/2 the weight of that Mufflex unit.

The muffler alone is friggin heavy as hell. How much of a problem, if any, is that 4" kit going to give us when installing? I'm thinking clearance issues back at the panhard bar/support bar.

Maybe we should go to Summit today with a scale - ask to see 2 Bullets and an X pipe and friggin weigh it right there in the store? hehehe

The Mufflex with the flowmaster weighs over 50#. I doubt the Spintech weighs any less.

The Mufflex 4" IM pipe wedges in tight between the chassis and the upper panhard rod brace.

Re: EXHAUST - weight and power?

Well when I swapped my stock rear out for the 8.8" that is currently in my car I cut the 3" duals a little after the headers and the exhaust weighed at least 40-50#'s b/c the 3" true duals ran all the way to the bumper. So I ran the car w/o any exhaust except for 2 short pieces after the collector and it made no difference at all in ET's. Less weight is always better but I put all my exhaust back on and it still ran the same #'s but alot quieter. Later Clint

I'd go with the true duals. Cant beat the sound, power and weight savings.

Re: EXHAUST - weight and power?

Update:

I weighed the exhaust...97 lbs shipped without the piping I would need to get my Kook's to work...so after shipping materials and the piping...probably 100 lbs of exhaust system...

So I went and bought a SummitRacing 3" x-pipe kit, 2 bullet mufflers, 2 turndowns, 2 clamps...total weight....40 lbs.

Not to keen on the before the axle idea...but the exhaust will flow better and weighs 60 lbs less...and when one is trying to get as light as possible...that is a chunk.
