Exhaust too loud...!!! Cat or second muffler??
Exhaust too loud...!!! Cat or second muffler??
I have 400RWHP H/C 95 Trans Am headers+ no cat+ flowmaster exhaust and electric cut out...
The car is just too loud to drive everyday. For me its okay, my when I drive with my friends it’s just too loud to talk...I need something to make it quiet. I recently put 150sqft of dynamat on my car, and it did a lot to reduce road noise but exhaust is still too loud (with windows down). Since I have any electric cut-out I don’t really care about restricting my exhaust flow, I just need something that will make it much quieter. I am thinking about adding cat just before flowmaster exhaust (after cut-out), or add straight flow muffler from street V8 (Caddy, Lexus) in that place...
Tell me what you think...

I have 14" chambered muffler in there (in the i-pipe before the rear end), and it still way too loud..I need something very quiet..I was about thinking of putting regular Flowmaster 40 series in that place...

Put a 50 series in there if it is really that loud, if you want to stick with flowmaster. Like you said, who cares if it is restrictive, that's what your cutout is for.
Re: Exhaust too loud...!!! Cat or second muffler??
Stock quiet?? I need it to me as quiet as possible without blowing out my header haskets
Thanks

Thanks

Re: Exhaust too loud...!!! Cat or second muffler??
back when i had just bought my longtubes i ran an open y-pipe for a while and i decided it was too loud. not for me but for everyone else in the car, neighborhood, and at school. so i just bought an OEM LS1 muffler added some rolled 3" chrome tips and got a cutout before the axle. i still managed to put down 281hp/295tq through the muffler with just the LT's and an intake. it is really quiet, and i was planning to get an electric cutout cuz all the mustang guys thought LT1+stock exhaust=easy win. no one would race me when i had the cutout open cuz it sounded ungodly loud. i can imagine how fun it is in your car though
sell your flowmaster and buy or look for a stock LS1 muffler, someone would prolly just give it away. then you have a sleeper effect with the electric cutout. i would like to see the face on people when they pull up to a light not the least hinted to how you car sounds till you open the cutout then
wow, didnt realize my reply was this long!!!

I surprised a lot of guys with my e-cutout
When I drive it around with cut-out open is not much quiet that open headers (the cut-out in placed in the converter place) so ALL people look at me and I don’t like that attention.
Anyway, thanks for the advice, I think I will go with stock ls1 muffler...

Re: Exhaust too loud...!!! Cat or second muffler??
It's probably the flows making your car so loud. I am running headers w/ory and no cats through a magnaflow 3" system. Sounds good, not crazy loud, not that quiet either. Magnaflow is a more mellow system. I'd try getting my hands on one of their systems. I love mine. I have heard flowmasters on these cars. They're loud as hell.
Re: Exhaust too loud...!!! Cat or second muffler??
I purchased the aerochamber exhaust for my 97 vert. It has a mellow sound at idle and when cruising, but gets louder when giving it the gas. You could probably just purchase the muffler and add it to your current pipes
Re: Exhaust too loud...!!! Cat or second muffler??
not trying to capitalize on your situation, but if ya cant find one i still have the one i took off my car with tips and all. im pretty sure you'll find one dirt cheap close to your location. have fun though
