Exhaust leak I need some advice.

So on to the next issue, my 96 z has a exhaust leak at where the header meets the driver side cat. It's a monster leak to, which would explain
The car running like poo when warm and idling like crap. Along with the egr not having a selonoid... So my main issue is at that flange I can only see and feel one bolt. There should be three right? I'm not sure how the top and bottom of a bolt could break off. But I guess it happened here because I can't feel the holes or bolt ends... Could this leak been caused by the p.o using clothes hanger wire to hang the exhaust and the flexing making the bolts snap? Where do I begin on the repair process here. My baby is so close to being road worthy

Re: Exhaust leak I need some advice.

There are no "bolts" per se. The flange on the manifold has three studs in a triangular pattern. The ends of the studs are probably even with the holes in the flange. There are no bolt heads on top of the flange. It isn't unusual for the studs to break off when someone works on the exhaust. Bottom line is if they are broken, you need to pull the exhaust manifold, drill out the broken studs and replace them with new ones.

There is a triangular gasket that sandwiches between the cat flange and the manifold flange on the driver's side.

A missing EGR vacuum solenoid is not going to cause the engine to run poorly. Only the EGR valve is exposed to the exhaust gas that gets recycled, and the vacuum solenoid is used to open the EGR valve. If the solenoid is gone, as long as the EGR valve isn't stuck open, there should be no problem. If it's stuck open, its going to idle very rough, possibly stall.
