engine temp gauge

ok correct me if im wrong but on my 95 z the pcm reads from the sender in the water pump right and the sender by the #1 cylinder is just for the cluster gauge. if i disconnect the #1 cylinder temp sender to put in my autometer temp sender for my gauge will i get an SES light or check gauges light?

You are correct about what reads from where. I don't see why replacing the sender in the head would trigger a light. You should be fine.

No, you will not. The sensor in the driver side cylinder head is not driven by the PCM. The SES is only controlled by the PCM, so it's impossible to get an SES light.

You can use it no problem, but I would recommend tapping into the water pump sensor. The coolant temperature in the cylinder heads versus what the PCM actually reads can vary by 20 degrees or more. GM makes a connector/sending unit that can be tapped into the sensor on the water pump so that the gauge on the dashboard matches what the PCM sees.

10096181 for the sender.
12102748 for the wire connector.
