Well if you're painting the rest of the car, it makes sense to pull it to match the color.

I just don't see how even replacing a water pump is a pain in the ***.

well I didn't know how to do it. it would probably be easier this time. last time I had one of the cover bolts shear off inside the pump and I had to have it removed. blahh. no fun
