Re: Engine overheating

I've only confirmed that the PASSENGER side fan comes on. I cant verify the driver's side until later when i jack it up. As far as i know, the passenger side is always on, it comes on when i start the vehicle. Whether they are both on at all times or just one, i wont know for a few hours when i can get under it. So, in short, the passenger side fan stays on and constant, all the time, no matter the circumstances. If the driver's side also does the same, i will let know in a few hours.

Re: Engine overheating

So i pulled out the transmission today, and after, i started it to see how it would run. BOTH fans do come on, but never switch to "high" at a certain temp. I ran it with the heater wide open so it wouldn't overheat. Plus i noticed once heated up, the engine idle surges between 1000 and 2000 constantly, and at one point my oil pressure dropped to 0, but then went back up. It desperatly needs an oil change, so that could be the reason. But why does it surge the rpms during idle? If it helps i do have the air intake elbows and filter off?

Re: Engine overheating

So would it be smart to wire my fans to a switch and always run them on high? If so, how would i go about doing this?

No, it would not be smart and is unnecessary. I would get them working in the stock configuration which is plenty capable of keeping the engine cool.

That would appear to indicate you were not using the MAF sensor to measure the air flow into the eninge. Was is still plugged in? Was the inlet air temp sensor still plugged in? Without the MAF sensor, the PCM needs an accurate inlet air temp to run the engine in speed-density. Then consider that if you pulled the trans and the converter, you took most of the mass of the end of the crankshaft.

Re: Engine overheating

Yes the MAF sensor and inlet air temp is unplugged, did not realize that would cause it to surge this way. The trans is being built right now, and in the mean time i plan on trying to figure out the wiring for these fans, they don't have a "high" speed. Its a constant low. Not exactly sure, not a big fan of the newer, electrical stuff. Ive always enjoyed 3rd gen camaro's, but couldn't pass up on this deal. So how exactly do the 3 relays work? 1 for each fan, 1 to enable high speed?

Text explanation and the schematic on my website show how it works. Relay 1 only operates for low speed and all relays operate for high speed. (I thought your read all this stuff?) If you are not good with schematics, maybe that was not apparent.

No, schematics are definitely not for me. I viewed them, only to realize i don't cooperate with them very well.
