The advantage of going out the bottom

You can put the whole thing back in ready to run, bolt up the exhaust, hook up some hoses, plug the PCM back in, and a couple electric connectors, and she will start right up. A lot of these things are a bitch to do with the motor in the car. Hell its hard enough to change the spark plugs with the motor in, but when its out, they are a breeze.

How do you get the car stands to stay with out ticking out with the angle of the frame to the stands? Also what are the cut outs in his engine dolly for? I think Im going to go this way sounds like a solid process.

It was also pretty easy putting the engine/transmission assembly back in the car from underneith.

Here's a pic of the assembly before it went back under the car. It was pretty nice being able to fully assemble the engine/trans outside of the cramped engine compartment.

Here is my situation. I pulled my shortblock out the top, after pulling heads, tranny, etc. I have the ac compressor, and powersteering all still attached to the bracket, sitting on the k member. I kinda shy ed away from going out the bottom because i did not want to disconnect the ac. I am about to replace k member with a tubular, and thinking about installing motor in the opposite manner and going from bottom this time.

So clarify how you did the drop without disconnecting the ac?

Not trying to hijack just figured my situation was close to the OP being he has some stuff already off the motor.

You can do it without disconnecting the AC, by taking the AC compressor off, and leaving the hoses on, but you will have to remove the alternator, power steering pump, and possibly the accessory bracket, but why, its not hard to recharge it?

Furniture dolly for the k-member and a jack up to the right height for the back of the engine. point the jack at whatever angle you are going to pull the k-member out from under the car.
