Engine cranks when battery cable attached

I dropped the stater to replace an O2 sensor after putting everything back where it belongs I went to connect the battery cable and as soon as it made a connection the engine began to crank. HELP!

The starter only has two wire the large power cable and a small purple wire and they can't be hooked up wrong!

check your small wire is not touching your main 12v cable when you put it back in.

Checked and OK

I checked and the small purple wire is no where near the large cable.
This car does have a remote starter installed that allows you to start the car from indoors could this be part of the problem? If so how do I troubleshoot it has to bypass the need for the ignition switch to be in the on position?

I have had this problem before. You have to make sure that on the starter your two cables are pointing in opposite directions. If one of the ends touches another one of the ends, it will do this.

If you have a remote starter one side is hot to 12v check the wires maybe they are contacting each other and completing 12v to the solniold. just a idea. good luck!

Here is where I'm at

I contacted the company that installed the remote start system and they told me there was a toggle switch that I could use to turn the system on and off. I found it and turned off the remote start then went to reconnect the battery and still the same problem, the engine starteed to crank!!!! Auuuugh!!

Please clarify: The small purple wire attached to the selonoid should show no voltage until the key is turned to the start position, correct?
