Engine cranks , very hard to start, idles but cant drive
Hi all , need your help on this. Car was running fine (only done 65,000km) then, I did the following - degreased engine, hosed off, started up seemed to run fine drove car 30metres into Garage to do engine oil & filter change.
Came back next day to finish off, removed air filter assembly and blew out filter. Put back and tried to start car, but had a poor battery(was suspect prior) I jumped 94 from another vehicle parked near by.
Car slow to start but did and ran poor. After checking I found that I had left air hose off filter assy. put back on thinking I'd cured problem but still no good. I then fitted new battery to car just incase this may have had an influence - still extremely hard to start (cranks over & over) runs real bad - will idle but not driveable - back firing through exhaust. Could I have 1. Moisture in some component/wiring block, optispark unit? even though I let run for 15mins to try to heat moisture off.
2. Damaged PCM in jump start? 3. Unlucky enough for some component to have died ? Down under in Australia I dont know anyone that can trouble shoot these late model Camaro's. - buggered if I know !! "Yacka"

Re: Engine cranks , very hard to start, idles but cant drive
Sorry didnt say- Camaro is a Z28 5.7ltr and pretty much stock other than wheels. You pretty much went right to the problem - I believe I soaked my OPTI. Earlier this morning I jacked car up and put a Hair dryer on the Opti and plug wires coming out for about 45mins.
I once again reset computer (pulled both Fuse 4-PCM Bat and Fuse 5 PCM fuel) I crossed fingers and fired car up.It ran lumpy for a second or two then went perfectly test drove and was back to normal. But ! - later in day after car cooled down took out again and although much better and driveable was running a little untidy - mostly pinging (knocking) under low speed load. I drove a short distance more and shut engine off. Started again and was much better then basically back to normal. I have now left car over night and see what a cold start tomorrow reveals.
Hopefully points to moisture being eliminated from opti. - hope no permanent damage.
I wont be in a hurry to degrease again!!! hope this helps others out. - thanks for your help

Yes you were both right it was the Opti and after the hairdryer and an overnight rest the car has been back to Normal- cheers from a smiling camaro driver.
