Engine clicking noise...runs terrible :(

Last night i was on the way over to a friends house and i decided to run my car real hard from a stop light. It was actually the first time I floored it since i put my new clutch in about 600 miles ago. Anyways, I had the car at about 5800 rpm's for a few second and launched from the light like normal. When I let off, the car started to run pretty rough and there was a really weird clicking noise coming from the front of the motor. I got out and checked the motor to notice any simple problems like plug problem, egr tube, vacuum leak and there was nothing that i could notice. The exhaust note has completely changed and i am not really sure what else to check other than internals. I have heard people have similar problems with broken valvetrain components and i always seems to assume the worst first. I checked the exhaust as well and it all seems to be tightly connected. Any ideas on what could be the cause of a symptom like this. Thanks

Try to isolate the noise. Could be valvetrain, but might be the opti rotor letting loose.

I checked the oil pressure and fuel pressure and they are both normal, it vibrates and clicks at all rpms whether sitting still or driving the car. It gets a pretty aggressive vibration at certain rpms, but the whole car shakes no matter where you are in the rpm band. What key things should i check first before i rip into the valve covers?

Could be the timing chain aswell.

Mine started acting like you said......the timing gear sheered its bolts off of the cam....destroyed the motor.....
