Re: engine break-in tips.
There are two different theories on breaking in engines, one is to take it easy for at least 500 miles, the other is to beat on it. I couldn't tell you which one is better but I have always taken it easy during the break in period. Just don't use any synthetic oils. Try a search on engine break in, there's already a lot of info on here about it.

Yup, lots of theories. Personally, I'd do some long trips, rather than a lot of short ones, and keep the RPM between 1500 and 2000, varying the speeds. Dino oil, 10W30/40. And...take your cell phone with you and the number of a tow company (one never knows). Keep your eye on the oil pressure.
Re: engine break-in tips.
I went easy for the first 400 miles with long driving, and used nonsynthetic.
After 400 miles I left it in a gear, took it up to 3,000rpm at 1/2 throttle and let is decelerate in that gear all the way down. I then did it to 3,500, then 4,000 repeated a few times before I did wot.
Came home and changed the oil.
After about 1,500 to 2,000 miles I'm going to switch to synthetic.
