Emissions legal cams, hmmm.....

-Crane makes one that has a CARB/EO#; not sure about the part number, but the specs are something like:
218/218 dur@.050, 280/280 adv. duration, 116LSA, .498 lift w/1.5 rockers

-TPIS makes the ZZ9; also has a CARB/EO#:
212/226 dur@.050, 282/286 adv. duration, 112LSA, .483/.520 lift w/1.5 rockers.

.....and there's probably a lot of other cams out there similar in size or smaller that would pass a sniffer without much problem.....it's just that the makers of those cams didn't go through the expense and trouble of testing these cams in order to get the CARB/EO#. Also, I'm sure others pass emissions with bigger cams than these, but it takes some creative tuning to do that. HTH.

Re: Emissions legal camshafts.

I stand corrected, there are cams with EO#'s. Although TPIS states their combo ZZ9 with the Stage 2 heads is an emission legal engine.

Thanks for all the excellent information.I have read a little about the ZZ9 and seen it installed in an older magzine article and they reported increases of 40-45 horsepower with the cam alone.Though it seems the majority of people are running the hot cam I think I will go with the ZZ9.How about some feedback from anyone out there running this camshaft.

I heard that if you unplug some fuel injectors it will pass. Is this true.

Check the pricing on the ZZ9 and the Hotcam. The ZZ9 costs about twice as much as the Hotcam, which is why a lot of people go with the Hotcam.

So hypothetically speaking if cost was not a determining factor on which one to run ,is the ZZ9 the better of the two for a daily driver that has to stay emmisions compliant?
