Angry Electrical problem

The problem is that I can’t start my car. I have checked all the fuses and made sure the battery was charged they were fine next I changed the starter out and put in a new one. The damn thing still won’t start, now I can push start the car and if I by pass the ignition and run a lead strait from the starter to the battery the car starts. So I think the problem is in the ignition switch or the clutch safety switch (clutch must be depressed to start car). If anyone has had this problem let me know what you did to fix it and how much it cost. Or if any of you have any other ideas of what might be the problem.

the fact that you car runs at all says your ignition switch if fine. I would definitely start with the clutch safety switch. Run a jumper wire across the connector for the switch and try it. Same thing happened to me in Myrtle Beach

Could it be the VATS module or possibly the ignition tumbler on the column?
Has anyone ever had this problem? And what did you do to fix it??

I am having the EXACT same problem!! I actually thought it was my alarm system til now since I read your post. I can push start. I already replaced the starter and the ignition switch. Both were needed anyway. How do I bypass the clutch safety switch?

I’m pretty sure that my problem is my ignition tumbler, but it could still be the clutch safety switch. What I did was run a direct lead wire from the starter to my console and put in a push button switch. Then I tapped power from my cigarette lighter and hooked it up to the switch. Now I have a push button start car!! It’s kinda cool but it does not fix the problem it only bypasses it. I will get this problem fixed at a shop in the near future, but for now I’m doing this. NOW here is a warning. YOU can start your car in gear and you can start your car with out depressing the clutch. IF you do this your car can lurch forward or backward, depending on which gear your car is in. So don’t say I didn’t warn you and pull a stupid stunt by trying to start you car in gear.

The key cylinder has limited function.
-The tumbler is matched to the key
-has abilitly to "read" the pellet on the key
-mechanically activates the remote ignition switch by a rod
There is nothing more electrical about it. If you can run the car with the key to ON and use your push button to engage the starter, there is nothing wrong with the key cylinder. It has to successfully read the pellet for the theft deterrent module (PassKeyII) to allow the fuel enable signal to the pcm.

When you ran the wire for the push button, you bypassed the start position on the switch, wiring from there to the theft deterrent module, from the module to the theft deterrent relay and then to the starter. You must just logically trace out where the power stops and then you will have the answer. Wiring diagrams would be helpful. Your problem could be as easy as a bad theft deterrent relay.

BAD 97 WS-6: your car has the BCM in place of the theft deterrent module. That part changed with OBD2 in 1996.
