Electric WP question on hook up
Electric WP question on hook up
It's that time for a WP and have read up a bit on the CSI and Mez pumps. Question is I do want to get the CSI pump but does it come with the brass plug that the Mez pump comes with?
Also does anyone have any good write ups on the pump install.
specificly on the wire diagrams and parts required.
Thanks

The CSI pump comes with a steel plug to block the pump, but if you're removing the spur gear from your timing cover, you'll need to get a plug for it.
I had the wiring diagram saved, but I must have deleted it after I did mine. Try a search for electric water pump diagrams. There's a few good ones on here.

Thanks for the info. However I guess I confused I thought the plug I needed was for the spur gear. I just couldn't remember at this time. So which other plug do you mean to block the pump??
The CSI comes with the plug for the pump itself. It needs to be plugged when you pull the original internals out of the pump to put the electric unit in, since it's not driven from the rear anymore.
I took my timing cover to my local parts store to get a freeze plug that fit in the hole vacated by the spur gear. Unfortunately, I can't remember what size it was. I can tell you that I also used some JB Weld on it, because the hole has 2 small grooves in it that I didn't want to leak.

I found a good install page and now I have a better understanding of everything involved and why the plugs are needed. As far as the timing cover goes does the cover need to be off in order to remove the gear so that I my plug it up from the out side? I don't want to remove the cover if I don't need to. If worst come to wost can I leave the gear on and just put the plug in the water pump?
Thing is I need the pump now and my plans call for cam/heads soon and would remove the gear with the cam install. Must it come off now?

I left my Cam gear alone.. the gear that drives the water pump. Its not hurting anything plus if u ever decide to go back to mechanical its right there...
Ken and another guy have up a sight with wiring diagrams but they seemed over kill to me...
I went to discount auto and picked up a dual fuse adapter... Plugged the power cord into the end of the fuse adapter, plugged the adapter into the 10amp ignition slot in the engine fuse box, and stuck in 2 10amp fuses, 1 for the water pump and one for the ignition. Then i just grounded the water pump.. works fine.

CSI takes longer.. Have to take a dremel or drill and drill the entire inner diameter of the water pump so it can fit.. u also need to drill out triangle like spots so the ears on the CSI can fit into the stock pump housing.. CSI is 40-50 bucks cheaper and after much research it seems there are slightly more people happy with it.. THe miezer u just have to cut a piece of plastic off your fan i believe.
Took me 3 hours to make the water pump fit to the pump housing. I didnt know i had to grind away a couple millimeters around the whole inside of the housing to make the pump fit...
took 2 hours for the pump to be fitted to the engine..
I did heads and cam at the same time... so my butt ometer said *holy sh*t*. Excpect 6rwhp on a stock car... 10-12 on a modded.
