Electric Water Pumps

Anybody put one of these in a race car and just hooked the ground to ground and the hot to a toggle switch on a fuse?

I am confused by all these installs with instructions to hook it up to the air pump harnes....which is long gone in my car.....or other ways with relays, but it seems overly complicated for a stripped race car application.

Anybody done it?

Thanks...

Well you can probably do that. The only reason most people don't is because if you forget to hit your toggle your engine is done.

You'll also need to use a heavy duty toggle because these pumps pull a lot of juice.

its really not hard to wire the relay, all you need to do is hook the relay to the pump, run power and ground to the relay and find a power source that is powered up when the key is turned on, the easy way is to tap into a fuse under the hood... do a search there are a lot of write ups on it

A good place to get power to energize the relay is taping into the wire to the fuel pump. It's hot with the engine running and off when the engine is off.

i have mine hooked up in my race car to a fuse panel then to a toggle. either use a lighted switch or add a light to the switch.....I would no tap anything to your fuel pump...you want that to get full power...same for ignition
