Electric water pump testing?

Is it ok to connect directly to the battery with a CSR electric waterpump for a few seconds to test the clearances in the housing prior to installing on the motor?

Re: Electric water pump testing?

I tested mine out the other day and it seemed to spin fairly fast and smooth. Dont have any idea on an actual speed but it looked normal.

Call Mezire or CSR, they both should run at similar speeds. They probably won't be open till tuesday.

Re: Electric water pump testing?

i hooked mine up to the battery in the housing to test clearance. but before i did i had the thermostat out and tried pushing the blades by hand, they wouldnt move to i knew i have some clearancing to do. fixed the problem then hooked it to the battery for about 5 seconds, mine spins pretty fast.

Re: Electric water pump testing?

I tested mine earlier today. Just connected the black wire to ground and blue wire to positive on my optima red top battery. She spun pretty decently fast, no grinding issues or anything, clearences seem good to me. Awsome way to test it though, never thought of that haha i thought it would screw up the pump if fluid wasn't present or being moved, i was wrong. Worked out well

Re: Electric water pump testing?

Not a good idea to run any pump with a mechanical seal dry for very long. Mechanical seals are lubricated by the fluid that is being pumped and you could damage the seal faces.

A few seconds to test clearences should be fine though, just cant let her go and spin for 5min at a time without anything in her.
