Question Electric water pump, I have a question.

I just installed a line lock yesterday and was out beating the car. On my way home I was losing steering. I pulled into driveway and popped to hood to see antifreeze everywhere. It was leaking from under the water pump and the belt threw it everywhere.

A few friends mentioned possibly switching over to an electric water pump to free up some horses. I was looking in Summit and saw Meziere makes one for $199. In the description it states: This Mezier water pump delivers an amazing 35 gal/min flow with 9 psi static pressure and a 2,000 hour seal life expectancy.

My question is about the 2,000 hour seal life expectancy??? Does that mean it will take a crap after the 2,000 mark? Is it more reliable that a stock pump? Anyone have any experience with electric water pumps that can answer my question.

Thanks

Not sure about the seal life.
I have a CSI electric pump on mine. It's only been on for about 700 miles. But, it has been good so far. No complaints.
By the way, the CSI is cheaper than the Mezeire.
Jegs $135. PN 170-901LT1.

2000 hour seal life expectancy refers more to the amount of continuous heat that the seal can take. And on average the seals will take 2000 hours of continuous heat before they begin to fail. This is what Mezier told me when i asked about their 2500 hour life E-WP.

Thanks for the input, did either of you notice a HP gain from switch over to an electric pump?

After installing My Electric Water Pump (I bought the Mezier HD) I noticed a difference. I also picked up about a tenth. And the engine revs quicker. And the engine runs cooler. It is kind of like running the car without the belt. Because you are no longer asking the cranks to push water! Hope this helps.

I looked in JEG'S and that one is listed for 93-95. Do they make one for a 97?

Thats the one for any year LT1, not sure why they only list it for 93-95. That's the one I got for my 97, if you go with one make sure you wire up some sort of good warning indicator that the pump isn't running. See my other post

Is it driven off the crank, or the camshaft? I guess it depends on how you look at it...the dowel/gear runs off the cam gear though.

One thing I want to get a positive answer is if that big hole needs to be blocked when that gear assembly is pulled out. I wouldn't think so since there are 2 other holes on either side already there, but I don't know for sure.

As mentioned, a CSI one is cheaper. Summit has it too, search for that PN. I forget hte price and how it compares to Jegs.

I just left mine open, fine so far. You can block it if you take off the timing cover. Gains for an electric pump aren't much, maybe 1 HP.

Naw man, they're worth more than just 1 hp. I was talking with a guy that has a shop, and has noticed a "decent" increase in HP w/ electric WP's.

Anyone have any before/after dyno graphs?

Which one is better? CSI or Meziere?

I've read that with the CSI you have to modify the WP housing to make it fit.... but that for the Meziere you have to cut a little from the plastic fan housing.... I'd prefer the latter!
Both are pretty much equal in quality, reliability, etc. I chose the CSI for the price, since I don't mind a lil bit of grinding.

time = $$$

If you want to see some pics of what to modify for the CSI, click here.
