Loud noise...help me please.
Loud noise...help me please.
OK I have a 97 T/A, and everytime I turn my headlights on and then off (whenever I get where I am going) it makes this god awful noise. A loud buzzing then goes on for like 20 seconds after they close and it stops. The motor probably has something wrong, but the lights still move fine. Any ideas what I can do?
Its the gear in the motor thats stripped. The design GM uses is meant to fail, The motor has no starting or stopping point, when the arm is all the way up or down resistance on the motor stops it. So every time you put the lights up or down the plastic gear takes abuse. It only uses half the gear, you can flip the gear over to the other side by disconection the arm and rotating the motor 180 degrees. This is the temporary fix, eventually the brittle gear will just fail again. Then you'll need a new motor, or there is a guy who sells sets of brass gears that run about 75 bucks i beileve. It just a poor design, the 2 new gears a far less than a motor which can range from about 75 bucks on ebay or a salvage yard, to over 300 depending on where you get it from, i got mine from a GM dealer for 180.00
Hope that helps yous
