I just decided to go with an electric water pump for my lt1 I have already mounted it to the old water pump but I am now trying to find a block off plate for the hole in the timing cover, does anyone know if one is made for this or do I have to make it myself, also I'm missing some bolts for the rebuild ( timing cover, rear main, and some others) where should I go to get them?

 

For the timing cover I took the cover down to Autozone and found a freez
that was close.The plug was a hair two big so I grinded a little off the cover than put some blue silicone on the freez blug and beat it into the cover.For the bolts I have a place by my house called bolt king and they have almost every bolt.

 

i wouldnt block it off, just let the drive spin freely so that way you could always put the stock water pump back on without having to take the timing cover on. Just make sure you take out the waterpump drive coupler.

I used a freeze plug like was already said, but I know others who have either welded a piece of aluminum in, or JB welded a piece in; I've even seen a quarter JB welded in to block the hole!!!

 

i actually jb welded a half dollar in the hole. worked like a charm, no leaks!!

 

You'd be surprised how common that trick is LOL

 

That's because finding the "right" freeze plug is very hard. Luckily I have a good reputation with the local parts store so I got to go in back and rifle through ALL the plugs to find one that fit.

 

That's what I used and it's been working fine for 65,000 miles. Surprisingly my water pump has lasted that long as well.

 

Ok, just asking because I don't really know for sure, but if you do install an electric wp do you have to plug the hole? I've been thinking about getting one just because I haven't done anything to the car in years and I'm kinda getting an itch for a little more hp to spice things up.

 

you could just let the drive spin freely or block it off blocking it is more common.
