electric cutouts: problems?

i just bought dual 3" electric cutouts and have not installed them yet but when i was discussing them with a friend, he was certain that there would not be sufficient "back pressure" and that i would damage my valves. I was like uhhhh, riiiiiight. Someone tell me he is stupid and i can open my headers with no damage except to the ozone lazer.

Second question. Is it possible to get a switch with characteristics similar to an auto window switch (push switch and take finger off and it continues to open) Also, ive heard if you hold the switch too long to close them you can have leakage problems because you can overtorque the motor.

First Question, I never heard of such a thing....

I had an electric cutout on my car for my borla and was told the same thing by the maker "It only takes less than 3 seconds to open, so dont hold the switch for 15 second because it will eventually ruin the motor" but he also warranties it for 4 years so its not a problem and I wont be holding the switch past 3 seconds anyways.

Here is a pic of mine:

Thx,

Yeah just tell him he is a idiot. Some of the electric cutouts leak. Its just because they don't close right. I haven't heard of anybody having any problems with the DMH cutout. It is a little more expensive then the others but i rather pay a little more and have a better product. That is what i'm getting.

Cool

will reduce back pressure; but damage valves is a stretch. if you have an egr it may illuminate SES for a P0400 code.

don't need backpressure with our cars hehe, you're fine, but if you were to have Short Tube headers & running them without a Y-pipe say would damage your valves because if its that close to the head then fresh oxygen will be introduced in the ports & cause excessive heat & burn out your valves yes, but anything after the Y-pipe your fine.
