electric cutout dying after 1 day?

I just put a qtec 3" electric cutout on Saturday afternoon. It worked great for like 4 hours, then stopped opening and shutting. If I close it by hand, it will open back up, but it won't close on its own. The wiring is all fine, and I can hear the motor trying, but its not going. Are these things prone to breaking that soon? I noticed after just acouple hours, the butterfly was nicely coated in carbon from the exhaust, could that be it? I'm not getting any codes so I know I'm not running rich, I think its just normal exhaust deposits. Are these things just too fragile for the extreme environment of the exhaust? I put it right before the axle, so I don't think its getting too hot. Any input?

they all break !!!

good thing they all come with warranty

i've broken 3 of them

2 different models of the McCord and 1 DMH one .. but the DMH one was by far the longest lasting and better working model

though both McCord and DMH have great customer service and took care of me when their product broke

How do you get them from cracking open after you close them? Mine always does that and it keeps getting pushed slightly open and makes a wistling sound.

Ya, when my was working, it didn't seal all the way. The butterfly would vibrate alittle and let some exhause out in the closed position. I really like the way it sounds when its open so I just might take the electric motor and assembly off the cutout and leave it open. I don't think they will refund me though. I got it through quick time performance, and they just replace them or fix them, no refunds.......anybody want an electric cutout???

I never really had a problem with my DMH's, except my cutout hung so low it banged the ground once, now its in for repair. Other than that, its awesome.

I'd talk to the guy and see if you can get some warrenty work done.

ya, I'm sure they'll fix it or send a new one, I just hope it doesn't keep breaking. I don't want the hassle. If it breaks again, I'll just leave it off, cause it sounds mean as hell open!
