Electic WP back to a mechanical.

I've been out of the LT1 crowd for a while so I've forgotten a lot. Can anyone tell me what all I need to do to go from an electric water pump back to a mechanical? And does anybody make a high output water pump.

Can I do it without pulling the motor? The current motor doesn't have the WP shaft right now, just a hole where it used to be. When I bought the 383 it didn't have it in there and I didn't take that part out on my stock motor. I have the 24X timing cover, so I'll have to get one that has a water pump shaft provision.

Re: Electic WP back to a mechanical.

there is no "high output" mechanical WP made for LT1, just stock.

if your motor no longer has the WP drive gear installed, you need to pull the TC to install one. If you have a larger double roller chain, you will have to go back to stock type to clear the WP drive gear and have the correct TC to accommodate the WP drive gear.

You don't need to pull engine but do need to drop front of pan to remove TC

you also need to get the coupler to mate the WP drive spline to your mechanical WP

sounds like the path of least resistance is stay EWP

After all these years there isn't a double roller timing chain that will work with a mechanical water pump? I guess I'll make due with what I have since switching back to a single chain on a 800+hp motor is ill advised.
