EGR valve, need pic and help, SHOEBOX pic please????

I'am in a desperate need of a pic of the back of the motor, so that I can more easily take off the EGR valve. Also does anyone know how to clean it? How much does the part cost just to replace? Any info/opinions of EGR cleaning would be helpful, thanks.

Just take it off and put in a block off plate. it's closer to the passenger side of the intake, it'll kinda look like the thermostat neck, but with a tube going down to the y-pipe. Two smaller bolts hold it in. Just remove it and then you can trace a template on (from guys i've heard) some old aluminum cans, make it a couple thick and make a gasket with high temp RTV or get some cork and bolt that bad boy on.

I doubt you will see any change in gas mileage. Most people's reason for removing it is when they get headers that don't have the provision for the EGR feed pipe. That pretty much makes the valve useless.

Looks like I've been using the wrong wrench.

BTW, I appreciate the way you corrected me... Very tactful

Thanks for all the pics guys, real fast responses, thanks alot....

One more question though, are there any hardened(steel or such) lines connecting to the egr valve, or just those two vac lines? Also do I need a gasket for this when I put it back on?

I just changed mine out on my 97. There are no hard lines just the small vacuum line. You will need a new gasket. When I bought my valve at the local dealer it came with a new gasket. Make sure you take the old gasket off. It may not come off with the valve.

How much did it cost to replace? I might just replace it to make sure its good, I plan on getting the MAC headers anyway and I believe they have emissions.

I paid $60 at the local dealer for the valve and gasket. It is cheaper to mail order it from gmpartsdirect.com but I was in a hurry. The original materials used to make the valve were defective, thats why they have a new revised valve and thats why most of them go bad on these years.
