EGR replacement for Amatuer

I am getting a code for the EGR valve on my 97SS. I know where it is and what bolts hold it on but I can't really reach it. Can anybody give me some step by step instructions to get back there? What do I need to remove first?

It's very simple. All you need is a 13mm wrench. First thing you do is pull the vacuum hose off the top of it, then use the 13mm wrench and remove the 2 nuts holding it down. It takes patiences because the area is so tight back there. Moving the fuel rail to the side, and pushing away the wires should help some. Also don't forget the EGR gasket.

When i changed my egr i waited until my motor was cool, stood directly in front of the car, and streatched out over the top of my motor. This was the easiest way i found to reach it.

if you wrap your arm around just infront of the PCM and run your arm along the firewall there's plenty of clearance for your arm and the 13mm wratchet. that's how i did mine, just did mine today actually.

Easiest way to fix the code would be to program it out And then maybe clamp the egr tube shut to prevent any gasses from passing through (incase the valve is stuck open). Then later put plates on the back of the intake.

Who needs a stinking egr valve anyway

The nuts on the EGR valve are not metric. They are 1/2".

Didn't stop my wrench from getting the job done.

Would this malfunction give a big loss in power? I notice I don't chirp in second anymore.

I think it has to be programmed out.

I use tunercat. You can use either that or lt1 edit, or find a shop that uses one of those programs and have them take care of it.

How much does something like that cost (tunercat)? Do you know what the average cost for a shop to do it is?
