EGR and Air Delete How to

I did a search, but didnt find much. Ive got almost everything off.

The AIR tube on the rear of the pass side manifold and block off is done, and the pump and other thing above the coil is off. The metal tubes are still on, and I guess the EGR is still on too.

Any good how to websites or detailed pics? suggestions?

Thanks!

Re: EGR and Air Delete How to

I tried a search on "EGR delete" and got 38 threads, and 32 threads for "AIR delete". The answers should be in there. I haven't seen any detailed "how to" websites or pictures.... it's all sort of intuitive.

When you say you "AIR tube on the rear of the pass side manifold and block off is done" are you talking about the exhuast manifold or the intake manifold? The tube from #8 primary to the back of the intake is the EGR riser tube. You can defeat the entire EGR system simply by sandwiching a solid metal plate between the flange and the intake manifold. If you want to physically remove things, you need a three plate delete kit, with one for the #8 runner connection (don't need this if your headers don'te have the EGR connection), one for the hole on the back of the intake where the tube connects, and one for the hole the EGR valve bolts to. Then remove the EGR vacuum solenoid, the vacuum lines and put a small vacuum cap on the vacuum nipple on the side of the intake manifold. Then either have the EGR system "programmed out" of your PCM to avoid an SES light (system will read "not ready" when emissions check is done), or "search" for the how to on the EGR diagnostic simulator circuit.

On the AIR, unplug the pump, and remove it. Block the nipple on the air intake duct with a 5/8" vacuum cap. Unscrew the connections to the exhaust manifolds and plug them with M18 bolts. Remove as much of the plumbing as you feel like. Requires cutting the aluminum tube that wraps around under the timing cover. Requires plugging a vacuum connection on the intake manifold if your car has had the AIR recall work done. Requires prgramming the AIR out or you will get yet another SES light.

When you get all done, you will have a net power gain of approximately "0", since neither of these systems affect WOT performance. You will have saved less then 10# of weight, and rendered your car incapable of passing a "visual" emissions check, if you have one.

Re: EGR and Air Delete How to

Thanks alot, I guess i wasnt searching for the right phrase. All your info has helped a lot. Im mainly trying to clean the engine compartment up a little. Ive got everything apart to put headers on. (But im waiting on my stall converter to come in)

In FL emmisions are not strict, and this car isnt a daily driver.

I picked up the UMI kit in ebay. It came with three plates, and I was trying to figure out where they all went..I used the EGR and EGR exhaust gas feed pipe block off. Looks like the third wont be used.

3 Plates:
One for EGR diaphram blockoff, one for back of intake, (EGR tube from passanger side manifold to intake.) One last one for exhaust manifold (EGR pipe connecting to manifold.)

If you dont use the last one, you'll have a huge exhaust leak, and throw off your o2 for that side. Unless you already have "no-emission" headers installed, you need that 3rd plate.

I covered where the three plates go, and why you might not need the third plate in my first response..... did you read it?
you need a three plate delete kit, with one for the #8 runner connection (don't need this if your headers don'te have the EGR connection), one for the hole on the back of the intake where the tube connects, and one for the hole the EGR valve bolts to.
