You can probably pass emissions. Only the most rigorous "rolling" dyno type test would include the load/rpm combinations that use the EGR system. However, if your engine tune is already marginal, there is always the risk you will fail due to excessive NOx.

It is illegal under Federal law to disable any emissions equipment. It may also be illegal under some State laws.... depends where you live.

It will not alter performance in any way. EGR is only used at low/moderate load. It reduces combustion chamber temps, reduces NOx emissions, and reduces the chances of detonation when "lugging" the engine at low rpm. It isn't used at WOT, so it doesn't affect performance.

It doesn't increase power at all. Gains, cleaner engine compartment. In my case it was causing a low rpm stumble because the valve was sticking, removing it resolved that issue

I highly doubt you'd pass inspection and it is not legal to remove it. I don't know exactly what kind of horsepower gains you could expect.

It's only illegal if you get caught (or if you fail emissions).

One thing Fred didnt mention,is that it also increases mileage. You are better off with it working.

Here is a question along the same lines. I removed the egr tube and put the block off plates from Steve on them. I have MAC headers and the pipe wasn't butting up against the header and creating a leak. I left the EGR unit and did not use that block off plate. Is that going to create a problem? I know the guys that use LTs don't use the egr tube.
