No way... just don't rev past them. I had that exact same set up. You'll want to go cat back next... If you'd like, you can hear my system and let me know what you think. Could help you make up your mind. Remember, the Cat will tame the sound quite a bit.

If you change the muffler only and leave the stock pipes, you will have only 2.5" tubing instead of 3" and you will not have smooth mandrel bends. I'd recommend the Cat-Back kit instead of any stand-alone muffler. Good luck... yeah, the stock muffler sounds raspy...

Just get a cutout if your going to stay with stock piping. Its cheap and easy.

edelbrock shorties with off road pipe + dynomax muffler...I have this EXACT setup...and lemme tell you I love this sound over the several exhaust systems I've had on my Z! People compliment me on it all the time. The only annoying part is how people think you're trying to race them when you're accelerating normally. I'll admit, it does sound like a typical cat back system at near full throttle when you're driving, which makes it a different breed of sleeper! I've had so many people get cocky around my car because they think I'm racing and they're keeping up or pulling ahead...then I floor it and their jaws drop! As far as cops are concerned, unless you live in a complete ******* city, cops like hot rods too if they sound good. I actually had a cop tell me he'd much rather hear a car like mine sound the way it does rather than hearing some honda with a fart can & subs blasting down the road... My opinion is just drive very conservatively around them. I haven't had a problem since I've changed my driving habits...

I agree with the Pat fan from Arizona, don't get a component muffler system... either get the complete cat back or go with a cut out. It is worth it in the long run. Otherwise, with other mods, you'll wish you had the flow of the larger piping and mandrel bends so then you'll get one of those systems, but you'll be out the $100 now for purchasing a solo muffler that fits 2 1/2 piping.
