Question edelbrock headers

Thinking about getting some edelbrock headers. Would like a few opinions on them before I go through with the purchase.

I've got a set, they're fairly cheap, the coating falls off fast and they get the job done, dont' have any dyno #'s on them yet.

Yea I just need something to get the job done. Not to give the max HP and TQ.

I'm getting headers soon too, I checked out a couple of places and all of them recomended either Edelbrock TES, Doug Thorley, Hedman Elite's, Hooker Super Comps or BBK.

Edelbrock is the cheapest of the 5, but I'm going to go with BBK's because they're made out of the same grade steel and size as Doug Thorley's, which are awesome.

I've never done a Header job, but what i was told was that its important that they're thick and that they have at least a 3/8" flange on them or you're gonna burn them out in a year. Thats what i heard anyway. Guess i'll find out heh.

Edelbrocks are cheap and they work, but that's about it.

Plug access is horrible. Makes plug changes an all day event. In fact, I hated them so much, when I switched to the hooker long tubes a few years ago, I cut off the tubes on Edelbrocks with a sawzall instead of trying to wrestle them off the car.

IMO - Look for a header with better plug access.

As far as performance are the shorties that much worse than the long tubes? Any numbers to suggest there is a huge difference?

For me its easier to just unbolt the header real quick to get to the plugs, plug access isn't good with them, thats for sure.

In mild and/or bolt on applications I dont think there is much of a difference in the performance of the LT vs mid or short header. I dont have any backup info, it's just my opinion that the gain that some of the mild cars see in switching to long tubes, is due the the fact that the rest of the exhaust system ends up being changed. Deleting cats, larger ypipe, or duals exhaust is pretty common with the LT's.

Well I plan on doing a cat back and eliminating the cat I just dont want to buy 2 sets of headers I am also not looking to drag race it just once in a while goofing off. My plan is K&N CAI, ram air mod, bore my TB to 52 MM, TB bypass, 1.6 RR, headers, remove cat, cat back exhaust (magnaflow???)reprogram the PCM and I havent decided yet but either 3.42 or 3.73 gears. I also want to dyno it before and after to get an idea what I gained and where.
