ECT (Temperature Guage Sensor)

I was looking around for anything that looks unordinary that may be causing my rough idle, and I came across a sensor on the LH side that had a crack in the grey piece that holds the sensor in! Part of the Grey piece is missing even! I was like and then went inside and checked Shoebox's site and eventually found that it was the ECT. My temperature gauge reads fine, but could this cause anymore problems if it were to slide a little out of place? Right now it's barely hanging in there, but it IS in there.

Also, is it safe to put electrical tape around it hold it in better? I was going to do this but decided against it due to its close proximity to my headers...

Is there anyway that this could be causing my slightly rough idle? The car is throwing No Codes whatsoever.

I'd say that if it was reading fine, then nothing is wrong except cracked plastic.

Just replace it when it stops reading, or just replace it anyway just because it is broke.

This shouldn't make the idle rough though.

If it is the one in the head for the gauge, it won't have any effect on engine management. It's just for the gauge. The PCM uses the one in the water pump.

Oh, ok. I guess I'll just leave it alone or wait for it to stop working all together. If it does fall out/break will the guage just sit there and not move, or will it sky rocket and scare the crap out of me?
