Angry New Hooker Long Tube Header Problem!!!!!!!

I just purchased a new set of Hooker 2231 headers directly from Jet Hot. I have an old set that needed to be retired. I received them today. Opened the box and assembled the drivers side header. The slip fit joint has about an 1/8 inch play in it. This will never seal. What a POS. If you are considering buying these header beware. My old set of 2231 headers slip fit joint was snug and never leaked. This new header will not only leak but rattle it is so friggin loose. What the he!! ever happened to quality control.

Yeah 600 bucks for something you have to patch and hope it holds.

Call Jet Hot and tell them. I'm sure they'll send you a new set as long as they see the set you have now was not used or damaged. Just call up calmly and explain to them...calling up yelling usually gets you no where.

Re: New Hooker Long Tube Header Problem!!!!!!!

Ive cried and cried to Jet-hot and have even got a new set of headers out of it but the turned out leaking worse than the first ones. They claim they have never heard anyone having any problems from it leaking I have been in the same boat..I tried RTV..I tried a pipe extender...I tried a band clamp..It rattle soo terribly I couldnt stand it no more...My solution was welding it up
G'Luck to you...I dont understand how their engineers thought something would seal w/ that much heat/pressure with just a press-in fit

Ive ranted enough about this so Im done..

Have you looked into Pacesetter long tubes? I remember there being a looooonnng thread about them a few months ago and they seemed superior to Jet-hots aka coated Hookers in every way including price.

Mine was a little loose and I found this putty like material that's used to seal up 2-cycle engines exhaust... worked like a charm.

Cody,

Do you remeber who you were dealing with at Jet Hot. I am sure I will hear the same story of "We have not heard of anyone having this problem". I will going down the road you have traveled on monday.

Sorry to hear that. I had the exact opposite problem. We had to grind and grind to get the slip fit to slip at all. Can't knock the extra thick coating, but dang. They will work with you I'm sure. Once you get it solved you will love the headers....big gains in power.

Mine was extremely loose, too, but I used an 58mm exhaust clamp to tighten the things down. With the exhaust clamp tightened down really tight there are absolutely no leaks!

Re: New Hooker Long Tube Header Problem!!!!!!!

If I remember correctly I talked w/ Chris...He did tell me when I got the header welded up I could send it in and have it coated again at no charge. I didnt want all that downtime though so I didnt do it..

G'uck...

Re: New Hooker Long Tube Header Problem!!!!!!!

97FormulaWS-6 ~ Whats that putty called? My friends dirtbike ( Vintage YZ 125 ) has a bad leak, and he cant find a pipe anywhere for a 77'. Thanks

Sorry to hijack the thread btw. I say send them back, and order a different brand. I love my pacesetters, They seem to work great, easier to install than hookers or jethots also. Comes coated, with all bolts and the 2 gaskets for like 360$ at redlineperformanceengineering.com I got their Y pipe with it. You need to cut and sleeve your cat back for it to all fit but so far I have no leaks, it sounds good, and I got a great power gain from it.

Re: New Hooker Long Tube Header Problem!!!!!!!

Honestly I don't remember, it was something my brother had laying around that he has used on his sleds/quads/bikes.

I'll see if I can dig up the package and get you a name and post it...
