Eagle crank issues...
Eagle crank issues...
Just a little tid bit of info for any of you who have just purchased or are contemplating buying an Eagle crank/rotating assy.
I found out two things in about 2 minutes time. First of all a stock pilot bearing is too small to fit into the bore on the crank. I haven't seen this covered here, but have read about it on LS1 cranks on LS1Tech. The solution is calling Eagle. They are aware of the problem. You prove purchase and they will send you either a knarled bearing or an oversized bushing (I think it's .003 over dia) free of charge. I have chosen to go with the bushing just because I don't like the idea of something knarled on the crank.
So after finding that out I tried to put my flywheel on, to no avail. The locating ring is too large for the flywheel bore. Mine measures 2.070 and the flywheel was around 2.060. This is a stock flywheel so I've had to get it bored out about to 2.067.
Once again these are minor issues, but does tell you a little something about QC/tolerances when it comes to bargain rotating assemblies. I'm sure this is just a "bad batch" since it really isn't a widely known problem.

IF I was willing to buy a Chinese forged crank to save some money, I'd go with Compstar. Callies gets the forgings from Red China but all the finishing, QC, etc. here by the same guys who do their high end stuff.

^^Ditto. A friend of mine was chewing up thrust bearings, it turned out his Eagle crank had tangential grinding marks on the thrust surface, machinist said it was probably due to the side of the journal grinding wheel touching up against the thrust surface. After hearing that, I went Compstar instead, from VRE.
